Date: Aug 05 2015 Major: Journalism (This Major's Salary over time) Your education is what you make it. For me, Ohio University was a great experience. The people were fun, the journalism program was good, and the extracurricular/student publication experience is what really landed me my first job. The job I found [technical writer/instructional designer) uses a similar set of skills that are needed for journalism. The journalism program can be really easy if you allow it to be, so you must challenge yourself. Having Scripps/OU connections is a great thing, but the university gives you plenty of opportunity for self improvement and skill-building. Don't just half ass your four years with a decent GPA and a leadership position here and there. Really throw yourself into learning and your field. Be very active with your extracurriculars, use those alumni networks for internships, try to go the extra mile for assignments and classes. The top complaints I hear about Scripps are that the programs aren't challenging enough. They are what you want them to be. If you turn in the bare minimum, you retain the bare minimum. OU is an amazing place to receive and education and to have a fantastic social life. Be smart about your years there and don't let the opinions of those that couldn't push themselves deter you.
