Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
When I first started here at CCC taking some pre-reqs for the nursing program I had a great experience. The professors were very kind, understanding and all of them were outstanding teachers. I actuallt felt as if they cared about me, as a person, and they actually wanted to see their students do well and graduate.

Upon entering the nursing program, I realized rather quickly that this program was completely different than the regular college campus.

1) I have met only 2 or 3 professors within the nursing dept. who actually care about the students. The majority of the staff there are only concerned with the NCLEX pass rate, and of course money. Yes, this school has one of the highest NCLEX pass rates in the area, BUT that is becasue they fail the majority of the students who get into the program. (anything lower then a 73% is considered failing).

Nursing programs everywhere are tough! But CCC is definitely the worst! Alot of the work assigned is irrelevant to the actual career of nursing. They assign a ton of "busy-work" and the amount of work assigned for just a 1-2 cedit course is nauseating. I believe that is one of their tactics to get students to fail so they have to retake the courses. Of course this helps generate a higher income for the college. (Pretty much my entire class of about 40 students just failed our midterm for a ridiculous 2 credit course, which happens to be one that is just filled with a ton of "busy-work" assignments). That is just absolute craziness!!

If you are having issues with anything, personal or school-wise, do not bother trying to talk to the professors. They basically just will tell you that other students have problems too and to suck it up. One student actually just recently commited suicide and in his suicide note he referenced the CCC nursing program as the reason he did it in his suicide note. Terrible. I can only imagine how many other peoples lives have been ruined by this school and the riduculous policies they have in place. Dr.Robb, Dr. Melincavage, Professor Storer, Professor Seamen,…pretty much all of the professors there are horrible, non-caring individuals and I truly wonder how and why they ever became nurses! They lack all of the most important qualities you would expect a nurse to have. They all are very arrogant, rude, and lack the basic people skills I feel nurses and professors should have.

2) The SAGE program is great, unless you are a nursing student. If you are planning on attending the nursing program just be warned that they are not well prepared to deal with students who are single mothers, especially if the mother has no family or friends nearby that could help out if something happens with your child. If your child is sick, too bad for you. If your mom or dad dies, so what. They will still kick you out the program if you miss more than 2 days of class or clinicals. Oh, and if you need to make-up a clinical day, be ready to cough up another $250.

I honestly could go on and on about all the negatives regarding the nursing program.

One good thing about the program is that you will definitely learn alot and they dill definitely prepare you for the NCLEX exam. That's all though. I have nothing else to say that is positive in nature.

I really wish I had done more research on this program before I chose to enroll here, but it is too late now. There are plenty of other good nursing programs in the area that will provide you with the same education, minus the ridiculous amounts of extra stress and anxiety the CCC program causes for their students. I swear, you could have gotten straight A's all throughout your first few years in college, but once you enter CCC's nursng rogram you can kiss that 4.0 GPA goodbye. They really make it so the smartest student in there will feel completely incompetent.

So in summary, Yes, the school has a great NCLEX exam pass rate, and it is a very well-respected school because of that, but that is only because they will eliminate all students, even ones who have great potential and who would probably end up being great nurses, if they feel will not pass it on the first try.

Again, it is all about MONEY and RATINGS! That's it. It is absolutely terrible what hey put us through. Sometimes I really wonder if the stress, anxiety and depression they cause students is worth the degree. I wish I had looked further into other schools before commiting to this one. Such a shame…

Responses
responseTouche! I am currently in the program and I have never been more disgusted with a place in my life. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones to make it to senior year, but certainly with no help from the staff. I really wish I would have done my research first, I expected to work hard, but as an adult student, i have never been treated more like a child! I really wish there was something we could do to fix this, it's truly a shame. I was once so proud to even make it into CC nursing program, but now I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Your post perfectly summed up my experience!
