The town of Richmond is not super exciting, and there aren't many good restaurants, but there are a lot of opportunities to do interesting things. The town welcomes collaboration and participation with the college and students are welcomed. Earlham has an Engagement office that provides contacts and helps with placements so that we can get involved in the community in the field of our academic interests. There are many internship opportunities and a lot of service learning placements. Earlham has a free shuttle and you just have to sign up to tell them where you are going and what time you need to be there. I have friends who work at Cope Environmental Center. I also know some who work with doctors or the mental helath center. Education majors have great opportunities to connect with schools.

There is plenty to do on campus, also. There is always several things going on, and there is a lot of different stuff for whatever your interests are. The disadvantage is that, since it is a small school and since almost everyone does a study abroad at some point, when there are many things going on at the same time, people get divided up because everyone goes to what they are interested in so attendance at each event can seem small.

There is a great all-student gym with a rock wall, a pool, spinning room, squash and tennis courts, etc… You can sign up to use the courts the wall or go to free swim times or take free classes. There are a intramurals in almost every team sports. The varsity sports aren't too great,but if you just want to play for fun, you probably could make the team. If you are decent, you can start as a First Year. The sports facilities are top-notch though. The teams have new fields and new stadiums. Most teams have a team "clubhouse," and they are pretty new and pretty nice. They were built by sports alumni. The athletes are also good students, and not "dumb jocks." They blend in with the other students, unlike at some schools I visited. There isn't really a "jock culture."

Except for baseball. The baseball team has won championships and they have a huge stadium. But they are rude and not exactly known for being good students. They pretty much just keep to themselves, which is fine with everyone else. Other than that, the athletes are a normal part of campus.

The art facilities are also brand new and they are actually absolutely amazing. Same with the science facilities. There is a natural history museum on campus, which is cool.
