I would strongly caution propective students about BJU. Even after 22 years, my BJU degree causes me problems. The general perception is that BJU is racist and far right wing. If you're lucky, you will have to explain your attendance to prospective employers. If you're not lucky, you won't get the job interview because its on your resume and you'll never know why.

The lack of accredidation can also cause problems, even years later. BJU credits do not transfer very easily despite what they say. College is a life-time investment and BJU isn't a good start. Fortunately, I was able to do graduate work at a good school. I would hate to think what would happen if I only had a BJU degree.

I agree with this review in full and would also strongly caution prospective students about BJU. This is no ordinary college and unlike VMI, that is not such a good thing. Not at all. I can absolutely believe that your BJU degree would cause you problems 22 years later. I really can.

I can testify personally that BJU- among those that have even heard of it in the outside world- is perceived as racist and far-right wing. Every impression I have had of it confirms that idea. These are some good comments and some good points to make. Pro-BJU types will insist this is all nonsense, but I would compare BJU to a college in North Korea. Go there, and whether you graduate or not, people in the outside world are going to want to know why. Your comments on this issue are well said and would be good for any prospective student to keep in mind, even now, with BJU seeking or having obtained regional accreditation at last starting in 2016. However- this is not retroactive, so any credits earned there 2015 or earlier are worthless to anyone demanding regional accreditation.

I agree BJU is not a good choice for college. Not unless you want to ride the Bob Jones train for the rest of your life. They don't prepare you to live in the outside world. They prepare you- and they are pretty up-front about this if you know where to look on their website- to walk, talk, think and act the Bob Jones way. That's it.

My advice is to stay as far away from BJU as possible. For anyone who desires to truly think for themselves, Christian or not, BJU would be a mistake. Thanks for writing this review, from a reader 15 years later.
