I was really excited to go to Hampshire College. I thought this would be the perfect place to grow, to actually learn and not just do things for a grade. Though I was very wrong.

On paper this seems to be the perfect school. You're not just a number here, I thought, you can freely express your opinions here, I thought, the work would be challenging, I thought.

Students here can feel free to just do the bare minimum of work, since there are no grades, it doesn't really matter. Also, you rarely get a detailed evaluation for work that you turn in, an evaluation is generally 2 or 3 sentences from the teacher describing whether they are worried about you or not. If you are doing a mediocre job, that is perfectly fine. And the work is so easy here too. Sometimes I feel like I am at a very expensive summer camp. A very expensive fascist summer camp. You are not allowed to have any other opinion here besides that of a far left liberal. And I'm from San Francisco, so for me to be complaining about liberalism, is pretty extreme. The teachers like to force their political beliefs on you more than they like to actually teach. Do not take any race relations classes or philosophy classes. I am in one class where we just point out racist things in movies. It's especially fun when everyone in your race relations class is white.

Also classes that are discussion based are horrible, mostly because some people who attend Hampshire think they are exceedingly brilliant, and love to share their subjective personal stories with the class all the time. In other words, there are a lot of idiots who love to talk about themselves and try to relate it to class.

People here are directionless, with not much talent. They come here because they know they will not be judged.

I will be transferring next year.
