Bemidji is an absolutely wonderful place to go to school. The FYRE program is great for first year students and the school really cares about getting people to fit in. It's obviously a school for the outdoors type but coming from the cities it's still a great experience if you aren't into fishing/hunting.The town is small and surrounded by sketchy reservations. The campus itself is quite safe but every now and then natives will break into your car. My first year was great, although it's like living in a bubble. People tend to be unaware of the problems happening in the real world. Although Bemidji being so small and cold can be discouraging and I'm transferring to a larger more diverse college. My first year was unforgettable though to say the least.
