Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
I have a bit of an exotic background - I studied Fine Arts (BFA) as an undergrad, worked as fashion photographer (in Europe mostly), Co-found an internet startup in late 99. - which, you may have guessed - tanked. I decided to go for an MBA at that point (focus in Finance and Management), applied to seven programs, got admitted to 4 and decided to attend Stern. My MBA experience at NYU Stern was clearly one of the defining moments in my life and my career.

The courses are fantastic and the resumes and abilities of the other students are incredible - the people are ranging form the classic iBanking and Consulting types to medical doctors, race car drivers, dancers, lawyers, … only to name a few. I learned as much by working with them in closely nit teams, as I did from my professors. Having said this, the faculty at Stern is unbelievable - in my two years, I had courses with Nobel Laureates (Robert Engel), Game Theory Gurus (Adam Brandenburger), Finance Stars (Aswath Damodaran), well known authors (Niall Ferguson - since went to HBS), often cited economist (Nouriel Roubini) … I could list more, but you get the point.

Overall I experienced a very pronounced work hard, play hard attitude at Stern. This is why you grow on many fronts, not only academically, but also professionally and personally.

I got hired (as did most of my class) after my first year by one of the large strategy consulting firms - my future employer sponsored my second year at the MBA program fully (tuition + living expenses; it is NYC remember) on top of the cash sign-in bonus. Now, six years later (after graduation) I still work at the firm and I am now part of it's management team.

For me, it is absolutely clear that I could not have pursued this career if it was not for these years at Stern and I am not sure that it would have worked out like this, even had I gone to one of the other business school. It was the right choice for me and I wish all you you good luck, if you want to pursue a degree at Stern - It is one of the most remarkable places I have seen.
