The University of Hartford

I absolutely hated my first year experience in college. This is definately not the place to be. Aside from dealing with the everyday arrogant jerks that are majorily from Long Island, NJ and CT, I come across a huge amount of rude and undisciplined students. Going to this school, I realized how much I really care about my grades and my schoolwork compared to others who fail out, get caught with drugs and have nothing better to do. It's sad too because I participate in sports, several extra cirriculars and I try really hard; being around arrogance makes me feel like I don't even need to care that much to shine because so many others around me fail to do so. That goes for faculty too; they are never approchable (especially my advisor), and they do not want to help. Once I brought up wanting to transfer, they treated me like dirt. My advisor even told me "when you fail to get into the school you apply for, we'll be waiting for you to come back to us." What kind of comment is that? Also, the surrounding city is AWFUL. There is ONE shuttle that barely takes all of the hundreds of students who yearn to leave the school on weekends to stop at a couple different places, but only once an hour. You feel trapped and the only way to get anywhere, especially Frat parties, is with a friend and their car. It's pathetic. I cannot wait to leave.

I can't even explain to you how bad this school is. I just can't. If I were to actually explain the intricacies of why this institution is awful in almost every category, my comments would be better suited in a long book than on this website. I'll try to condense my frustrations... Let me put it this way:

If you are talented in music and are 100% SURE you want to devote your life to music, and I MEAN "100%", apply for the Hartt school. IF NOT, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES APPLY TO HARTFORD. The Hartt School is the ONLY thing that straps this college together. Just in thinking about CETA, the engineering/technology college, I become sick to my stomach. The Arts & Sciences college is a bit better, but still incredibly lackluster for what you're paying for? And all other schools and majors are so much of a joke that it would require a dictionary worth of profane words to describe them.

Note that this isn't just some college idiot rambling because he has a horrible social life or was sheltered all his life and didn't know what to expect... I came here with expectations I would receive a DAMN GOOD education for the price, would meet DAMN SMART people who have similar interests as me, and get to know DAMN GOOD professors and faculty. Only the last expectation has come to fruition in my time here so far. And it's NOT going to improve. Why? Because there is more drug activity than school spirit. There is more emphasis on substance abuse than on studying. There is better security and public safety in a whore house? ET CETERA (like I said earlier the annoyances would require book-length script).

I actually spoke with a public safety officer who works for UHa during my first semester. I asked him how he liked his job. He said, and I QUOTE, ?This place is a ******* ****hole. I hate every minute of working here?. ? If that doesn't give you another idea of the level of hell this place musters, I don't know what will. And if the people working to make sure this place is a secure environment for learners hate their job with vitriol so ferocious it could cause literal brain hemorrhaging, what does that say about the institution as a whole?

So if you have ANY intelligence, i.e. 1500+ on SAT and/or top 10th percentile of your graduating class, please for the LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY look elsewhere. Seriously. Take this as a warning: you WILL be unhappy here if you have ANY intelligence whatsoever. However, if you are a buggering idiot that enjoys wasting his parents? money for social reasons then this school might be the place for you! Congratulations morons!

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking ?this is just a college review site filled with a bunch of angry college kids. You can't come to conclusions based on a single review?? Don't think that way. Don't think like your skeptical parents (I know you have them, I do for certain!!!). Please. PLEASE. TAKE MY ADVICE. I?m TRYING to be humanitarian here? Look away and PLEASE don't look again.Just having to write this makes me angry. I expected so much more...
