If you're planning on moving on to a 4 year university, college of dupage will be one of the greatest investments you'll ever make in your life. However, it's easy to feel lonely in this school fairly easily, so if you're looking to meet new people and have new experiences I cannot guarantee you that. Some people make it happen, some don't. I was able to connect with some professors more than classmates in certain classes. In others, I was able to make new friends and acquaintances that made class fun and interesting.
The comments that say that the kids that go here are kids that couldn't get into another school are greatly exaggerated. You will find a mix of students that are here to further their education, couldn't afford to go to a four-year school, and yes, a couple of burnouts.
The most negative thing I have encountered with the people here regards something not a lot of people like to talk about, but needs to be addressed- The catcalling. Yes, there are many beautiful women on campus, that doesn't mean you should bark at them every time you see one. If I were a remotely attractive female, I would terrified to step foot in the BIC. Some of the crap those guys tell girls is absolutely disgusting and constitutes as sexual harassment in my book. Also, stay away from the corners of the computer lab if you're trying to get stuff done.
The faculty.. is a mixed bag. In some departments such as history education, and philosophy, those teachers are great! In others such as math, and english.. well, choose your professors wisely.I recommend COD if you can't get financial aid for a four year school/don't know what you want to do with your life etc. Work very hard for two years here, try to get straight A's or B's, it's not difficult at COD you just have to apply yourself. Don't pay attention to the social sacrifice you'll be making if you attend. Odds are you'll still be under 21 before you leave and you'll have real fun then.
