| | | | | | The issue with the graduate program in English is that it is fragmented into different specialty areas, and while this would normally be a good thing, the professors who specialize in theory and women's studies are the ones who make the decisions regarding assistantships, fellowships, etc. Therefore, if you want to do medieval studies, rhetoric, etc. you will find that funding is difficult to attain. The theory courses have a particularly radical bent, and there is certainly an "agenda." Unfortunately, this is true of many schools. | | Oct 31 2005 | English | | |

| | | While the community at large is filled with the friendliest people that you are ever likely to meet, radical feminists are attempting to hijack the department. This make it very hard for a male Graduate to get a fair shake at a fellowship, regardless of merit, publishing, teaching history, etc. If you are planning to come here, be advised that a love of teaching, literature, and years of dedication won't get you very far. A lot of grads are disillusioned and now just wanting to do their time, and get out of here. If you are, on the other hand a theory nazi who despises literature, and good at whispering campaigns, you should thrive here. Or in Indiana, no doubt. | | Sep 02 2004 | English | | Otherness, subalternism and the Southern literary diaspora |
