Metropolitan State University

Metro State is the place to go if you simply want to finish your education. It's not really a "join in" kind of place and many of it's courses are online, so you don't get much face to face time at all. There are some activities offered, but I only new one person that joined in.

The professors are fine, the school is fine. It's not very engaging. But, I loved the Individualized Degree program and it allowed me to tailor my Bachelor's to what I wanted to do and allowed me to include previous coursework in my degree plan. I highly recommend the course Perspectives on Education in particular. It makes you think about why you're learning what you're learning.Overall, my experience here was neutral. There were good and bad things...just as there are everywhere. But, I finished my degree, learned stuff and was able to do both work and school full time because of the flexibility of my classes.

The University calls itself flexible and promotes the idea that they are "transformational" but they often put roadblocks in the way of graduation rather than assisting or helping students overcome obstacles. As an example, I have 200 credits but cannot get registered for my major because I need to retake a basic class which had aged credits. Another example is the student who has credentials within her field which required classwork, but needs to retake the courses to receive credit. Advisers often are overworked and don't return e-mails until 4 or 5 days later, and they only know the policy, not how to change or challenge an outcome.

This school is very Military Friendly. I have just gotten out the Marines and all of my clasess have at least one other veteran that i am able to connect with.
