My experience overall has been very negative at MSU. I came in as a very intelligent student who was class-president, graduated at the top of my class, and had a 34 on my ACT. I was told by everyone that MSU would challenge me. However this was not the case. The academics here are very, very poor. If you are a top-level student or care about your education, I would not recommend MSU. The majority of the students I have seen do not really seeem to care about their education here. A large percentage of the students are from the state of Minnesota, and MSU tends to be nothing more than an extension of high school. MSU also tends to be a commuter school. I was from out-of-state and did not go home on weekends whereas almost everyone else did. The campus is pretty much a ghost town on weekends which made weekends fairly boring. I have ultimately decided to transfer because I felt I was wasting my time and money at this university A few good things though: beautiful campus as far as state schools go, and it's really easy to get around campus. However, I wouldn't recommend MSU for high-caliber students or for those who want to take their education seriously.

I came from another Midwestern State. I found the campus to be easy to get around. Everyone is friendly and inclusive if you want to get involved. Hockey games are great and free for students.

My major is dental hygiene, and I'll be applying this upcoming winter for the program. Yes, it is a competitive program but they want students who will work hard. Would you really want someone who didn't know what they were doing? As for my classes, I feel that I have been appropriately challenged in all my science courses. I have also enjoyed a majority of the classes that I have taken so far. As for the professors, the ones whom I've had contact with have all been very helpful and want their students to learn. However, for the people who say the teachers don't really care, that isn't necessarily true. You can go to any college or university and find teachers who are like that. It just depends on what classes you take, and if you're going to put forth an effort. For my first year I lived in the dorms in a learning community and I recommend that. We all had quite a few classes together, so it was nice knowing that there was always someone you could study with. Overall it was a good experience living in the dorms for the first year. I think the campus is quite beautiful (minus all the construction right now). For anyone considering MSU, I would say that it's a good school, and not just a 'Party School'. There are many things you can do on Campus and around the community. There are numerous sporting events to attend, the have free campus movies every weekend or two, Saturday night themed parties in the bull pen once a month, and so many organizations to get involved with if you just take the time. In the community there are many parks to visit, rasmussen woods is extremely pretty in the fall, there's ice skating, skiing and snowboarding at Mount Kato, 3 movie theaters, a mall, the state park north of town on hwy 169, and so much more. You just have to take the time to see what's out there. Definitely consider MSU :)
