University professors are too busy advancing their own careers and research to assist students. At any given time, roughly twenty to forty percent of professors are on sabbatical, researching at other universities both stateside and abroad, or out of town presenting papers. Students are an afterthought.

As an international student, your first months in Nebraska are MEGA hard. Nebraska is a flat, empty land with very hot summers, impressively cold winters and permanent wind. In a nutshell: Nebraska sucks.
Once said that, I should also say two things: Nebraskans are generally very nice and welcoming; and UNL is the best part of Nebraska. UNL is not the bomb, but it's a decent university, respected in the midwest and with valuable programs and (some) very remarkable scholars.
So, if you're thinking about coming here, my advice is: keep UNL as one of your last choices. After spending three years of my life in this hole, I can't thank God enough for the chance to move to another state and study in another institution. I will never be back here, and I can't be happier.
