The New Jersey Institute of Technology

My synopsis of this school was "Thank you sir, may I have another"; but it was worth the piece of paper and the job that I got at the end of it.

As with all tech schools, be prepared to supply your own girlfriend, or bring an xbox and be prepared to hang out with mostly men for four years for your social life, as there are two women for three men, and one of those women you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Newark is kind of a dump. If you want the traditional college experience, don't come here.

That being said, the placement record of the university is solid for my field, and am currently gainfully employed in another area of the country with pay that is the 60th percentile. And the school is remarkably cheap for its area. If you can tolerate the lack of women and social opportunities, this is an excellent school if your on a budget and want to expand your career opportunities.If your an introvert, you'll function well here.

2nd Year Male -- Class 2013

Friendliness: A-, Social Life: D

I'm about to start my second semester. NJIT is not a party school, and your social life may take a hit. I have no intention of transferring, however. The job and salary outlook for my major (mechanical engineering, minor in math) is too good to pass up. I commute and even the 35-40 minute drive becomes hell (1 hour+) during rush hour, plus you don't want to ever be stuck on the road with New Jersey drivers ;) Live on campus, join a frat, make friends, and keep up with your schoolwork and prioritize accordingly. Oh, and It's in the city of Newark, one of the most dangerous cities in the country. You WILL get emails about robberies on and around University Heights (NJIT, rutgers, UMDNJ, ECC). Don't leave campus at night.

1st Year Male -- Class 2014

Campus Maintenance: A+, Perceived Campus Safety: D+

This School is very difficult. I am a math of finance major and thats probably one of the hardest majors in the school since theres only one professor per class..Which makes me wonder if my life were different at another university. School is difficult, if you do not study everyday, you will not do well. I have a friend who does nothing but studying, sleeps thinking, wakes up thinking. The whole day is consistent of doing work or studying in your head without a textbook. It is TOUGH.
