I am not even sure that SWAC will be around in the next few years. The entire administration is racked by inner-political turmoil. The atmosphere is one of admin/faculty against students. During my time at SWAC, I saw students get bullied out of the program for absolute nonsense. Other students got fed up and transferred out early on to other institutions. Ironic that they wouldn?t be more invested in improving student experience considering that the school is deeply in debt and may be closing within the next few years. The price they charge for tuition is completely outrageous. They spend all of it upkeeping a ridiculously over-decorated and pretentious campus, filled with Asian antiques and artwork- and even a koi pond? This is one of the most expensive acupuncture programs in the country. I hope current/future students have a way to afford it... you will make more as server in a restaurant than you will starting out as an acupuncturist. I would have transferred if my family could have moved out of NM. I know that this is a Chinese Medicine school, but they operate it like communist China. If you are going here or decide to go here, keep your expectations very low and stay way, way below the radar of any of the administration and staff. The ideal student at SWAC is silent, invisible, doesn?t mind being humped by impossible ever changing expectations, and is independently wealthy.

You will go into debt over 100K+. Most graduates leave the profession within 5 years in order to make a living and pay back student loans. The majority of graduates can not make a living in practice, and supplement their income or have a spouse that brings in support to the household. Over 80% of my class no longer practices.Do not go into the debt...you will regret your decision.

School - especially a four year graduate school - is what you make of it. No one is going to promise you ANYTHING. You must pursue out of your pure committment. No one can carry you or prepare you or tell you what to do to find your way. And thank God there are some candidates who will, do, and have done this. Because otherwise your MD would still be putting acupuncture down as preposterous and many people would have no way out of their suffering and toxic lifestyle. If you want to learn about a substandard hubris form of acupuncture, go to physical therapy school. If you want prescriptive authority, go to medical school. If you want to learn everything you can about the rich tradition of Oriental Medicine, SWAC is a good eclectic choice. I hope to meet the new owners !
The level of education was excellent. The faculty worked hard (for the most part) and were very helpful. The owners of the school lied to us about many things are are only concerned with getting your money. I would definitely NOT go to the school again for the simple fact that the owners do not deserve to line their pockets while they pay their instructors crap. It is all about the money.
