West Point is a difficult school, but not impossible for someone who is willing to work very hard, focus on the task at hand, and find enjoyment from accomplishment. Academics are first rate, and I've never encountered a college with instructors more involved with students. For someone who is serious about education and a military career, there is no better place. Committed students thrive at West Point because the discipline and personal attention from staff and faculty create a very good atmosphere for studying. While West Point is not a "fun" place in the traditional sense, it fosters lifelong friendships, a team ethic, and a life of service. Yes, there is fun to be had when the time is right, with sports and activities available in abundance. Cadets who get the most out of West Point seem to have the following characteristics: - They are very good to excellent students, with the desire to learn and expand their horizons.
- They have an interest in keeping themselves physically fit.
- They work together well in teams, and are willing to sacrifice their own comfort for the good of the team. - They have high ethical standards.
- They have a desire to serve as an officer in the Army after graduation.
- They want to be leaders, not just followers.
- They have an abounding curiosity about the world, the people they meet, their country, and the soldiers they lead. - They are willing to accept the discipline at West Point and in the Army. This is not a place for people who want to "do their own thing" to be happy. Like most colleges, West Point is highly appealing to some people, but not to others. | Quite Bright | | I'm a lowly plebe (freshman, for all you civilians). Life sucks from time to time, but honestly, it's not that bad. If we can't deal with what the Academy throws at us, we won't make very good leaders when we get out in the real Army. No task that they give us to do is too difficult on it's own, but when you combine all the tasks together, you usually find out that you have more work to do than time to do it in, which tends to make some cadets cynical. I'm not going to lie: West Point is tough and West Point is challenging. I wouldn't trade it for anything, though. In the end,I guess I'm trying to say that this place is what you make of it.
