Overall experience at onu was very disappointing both on an academic and social level. To start, majority of the staff is unfriendly, condescending, and extremely unhelpful when it comes to guiding young adults to their futures. It was often hard to relate to professors, let alone even get a simple response to emails. Many of them would stand in front of class sighing, yawning, and being frankly unprofessional- the students were more awake then the professors. Not to mention my favorite, when the professors would inappropriately use their position of power as a political stance and try to sway the students. I can't count the number of encounters I have had with staff throughout the campus in which they were outright rude and acted as if my simple questions were a huge bother to them.

The only useful aspect this university has provided me with in my degree, which I could have obtained from a number of schools. Campus upkeep and living conditions are awful as black mold was found a number of campus housing I've lived in throughout the years. But as with most conflicts the university encounters, it is covered up through pompous and self centered individuals who are more concerned about just keeping their jobs then actually doing them. In addition to subpar living, the facilities are too in disarray and basically falling apart. 3,000 some students get to all share one tiny rec with 4 treadmills and not enough weights/equipment. The school seems to care more about using the students money to build features which make it appear desirable to parents & visitors- such as the inn and the pricey solar farm. Given a second chance I wouldn't even think twice before choosing another school over onu. There are many schools that could have prepared me better for my desired future while at the same time providing a better overall student environment in which to learn and grow. If you're interested in going to onu for anything other than pharmacy, spare yourself and look elsewhere there are MANY other better options.

The English program is pretty good. It's one of the main reasons I went here (Creative Writing). I felt that I got a good education to prepare me for Grad school, rather than the exact area that I want to go into (Publishing and Editing), but that is normal for the field I think because it requires a lot of knowledge and experience. Other majors in the department may have more luck with getting a job right out of undergrad like the Professional Writing major.

The students in the department are incredibly cliquey; I don't have any close departmental friends at all. In general, I also think the student body is clique-like based off of similar interests/groups. But within my clique, everyone is really cool and friendly, and fun to hang out with.

Though you don't have to be religious to go here, I have found that a lot of the students that I have encountered are varying degrees of religious, but a lot of them are (varying from religious to very religious). This can get kind of uncomfortable for me since I am not a religious person by nature based on how I was raised.

The professors can by clique-like also, but not as noticeable as the students. Some professors are very hard to handle, while others are very likable and helpful. The younger professors are the better ones; I think because their knowledge is more recent and they also are not far off from where we are currently.

Athletics (at least swimming) are essentially DI based off of time commitment, which is why I went with a club sport (which was much better). Though the school is DIII, the athletics are very competitive, and that is not quite what I was looking for personally. I went to school to learn, not to learn around my athletic training and competitions.There isn't a lot to do directly off of campus, but some good towns are close by so it isn't that bad, though it can get annoying sometimes to have to travel. But the school is good for those accustomed to not doing much outside activity with friends, and just hanging out with people.

Ohio Northern University is a beautiful campus and a lot of fun, but the professors seem to think education is about indoctrination. Most professors on campus think every student that walks in is a Tea Party Republican that needs to be transformed into a far,far leftist. As a political moderate that does not lean too far in either direction, I find this ridiculous and stupid.

But that's far from the worst thing at ONU. ONU is expensive and takes all your money and does not help you find employment in the real world. Nor do they tell you which majors lead to good employment. I majored in Spanish and while I did well and enjoyed it, I was lied to about the job market and opportunities-- or rather, lack thereof-- relating to my major.

I truly regret the money I wasted on ONU, not to mention the fact that while I was a student there, they built 'The Inn' in a town of 5000 people that needs no hotels in spite of the fact that neighboring Lima could use the business. My parents spent 100,000 dollars on getting me an education and I got nothing out of it.

Oh, they do do one thing right-- the multicultural fairs are a blast. Other than that, STAY FAR AWAY!
