Moravian College

Moravian isn't bad place academics wise. The Music & Education Programs are competitive and the other departments are pretty good. Basically as long as you do a little work you should do fine academically. Moravian is definitely very small, which is what I thought I wanted but in retrospect I think that it is too small here. You basically will go to class with/live/work with the same people everyday which can be good at first (especially as an incoming freshman, but it gets old very fast.)

I think that Moravian does a good job in selecting friendly/nice students to come here However, as nice as the students may be, cliques form very fast and it could be tough to find a social group.

Do not fool yourself into believing Bethlehem is any type of exciting place. While there are some good restaurants around campus, there is really nothing that great in walking distance from the Moravian campus, just a lot of residential property.

The social life is definitely ranked D for good reasons. While there are a few parties on the weekends, they are usually in small rooms and very crowded. If you are not a heavy drinker (like me) you may have an even more difficult time socially here. I have found a group of friends that doesn't like to drink, but the problem we have is that there is really nothing to do here so most nights are just spent watching TV or something else not that exciting (definitely not how I pictured the college experience.)

Do not listen to the admissions dept when they say that this is not a commuter campus. While is true a lot of students live in residential housing, a good percentage go home on the weekends (75% live within an hour of less of the Moravian campus.) So when you combine the fact at 1. Moravian doesn't have that many students to begin with and 2. A good percentage commute or go home on the weekend, you can begin to understand why I say the social life is not that great.

In summary, I would recommend Moravian if you are looking for a small college with decent academics and with little or no social life. I do not want to say I regret coming to Moravian because I have met some good people and feel that I am getting a decent education, but I would be lying if I said I had fun here. My transfer applications are in the mail this moment as I now feel after spending a year at Moravian I am ready to move on to a bigger and better college.
