Valley Forge Christian College

It seems that you're definitely at the University of Valley Forge (formerly known as Valley Forge Christian College) for a reason. A good handful of people I know including myself have felt led there. It is pretty expensive, relatively speaking, and they don't offer help with off-campus housing with other families, so you're on your own in that area. Also, I read the reviews here before attending. Here's what I will say they got right: the campus is very dead on the weekends, and kind of in general. Coursework is also fairly easy - depending on what major you're in and what level the course is and yadda yadda. I would say, though, that almost all of the professors are approachable and really do care about you. The president of the school also cares but he's definitely overworked and apparently doesn't have time to talk to students outside of class. His TA isn't very helpful either apparently... Campus buildings are not in the best shape. The worst one I'd say is Beuttler Hall (a guy's dorm which I've stayed in). Beisel Hall (another guy's dorm I've also stayed in) is notorious for being hot all the time. The Anvil is a place for people to hang out, but beware of the dripping ceiling. Please keep your laptop safe. Bongiorno is a girl's dorm which is where pretty much all of the freshmen girls stay, and I've heard it's not the nicest when it comes to air conditioning. It's also very expensive compared to the other girl dorms. It doesn't seem maintenance is very timely with repairs or upkeep sometimes. Their best departments are probably the ministry departments, business, and digital media fields. What I don't think you'll get in very many places is the type of relationship you have with staff and faculty at UVF. It's really nice when they treat you like real people and actually care about you. Additionally, almost everyone I've talked to has stated that the community aspect is the strongest of the campus' traits. You feel like you're a part of a family. At the time, UVF security is very good and everyone's pretty happy about that. I would just advise you to stay in well-lit areas at night. It can get pretty dark at night. Sadly, it is a bit of a bubble. That's one more thing other reviewers are right about. People are sheltered from the outside world here. Lastly, don't forget that it's really what you make of it, and don't get wrapped up into drama. You're there to get an education not an earful. Have fun, work hard, and do all things for the glory of God. (P.S. Please don't talk badly about the financial department, they're swamped with student accounts, so if they made a mistake, just tell them to correct it).

I graduated from Valley Forge Christian College in 1990. Back then the college was in some ways very different than I understand it is now. When I was there you majored in Pastoral or Youth Ministry, Music Ministry, Missions or Christian Education and that was it. Keep in mind it was a bible collage then as well. From what I gather, the college/university offers much more at present. After reading some comments from other attendees I am not surprised to discover much of the old mindset involving a students "spiritual" and social life still exists. I assume campus expectations are spelled out somewhere if you dig a bit.

I entered Valley Forge Christian College/University as a married student and a working parent. I was 24 years of age had some life experience and was prepared to do the work necessary and move on. I observed much of the general nonsense concerning campus life but did not allow myself to get sucked into it. It also helped that I was NOT Assembly of God when I went there but did have practical experience dealing with people subscribing to the A/G way of doing things.

My advice for anyone going to "VFCC" or any college for that matter is to do your homework prior to enrolling. If you can, seek out others who may have gone to the school and get their opinion. Also, make sure your future income will not be swallowed up in college debt. You will also want to find out if the course credits you take at VFCC can be be transferred should you decide to leave. Find out if you will be able to get a job after graduation with the degree you earn. I knew a Christian Ed major who discovered her degree was worthless except for teaching in a low paying Christian School. I felt sorry for this person but it was HER fault for not doing enough research prior to going to the school. Visit the college several times if you can and pay attention to what you see and hear. Don't fall for the "hype." Look for the facts.

Also, examine your own doctrinal/theological beliefs honestly and compare them to those of the college & student body. If you are not sure what the college believes ask them for a copy of their mission statement and the core values of the A/G church. If you find yourself disagreeing with what they believe don't go there!

While I was there I enjoyed college life because:

1. I was older and married so my concerns were different
2. I knew what I was getting into and didnt allow myself to get sucked up the "drama" of campus life.

3. I planned to attend graduate school and knew what I wanted to do. Here's another tip: Don't go there to "find yourself." You will be disappointed!
