After transferring in from another college, I foundQuite BrightCriminal
After transferring in from another college, I found that BJU held high academic standards, but lacked in critical thinking. This helped develop many of my classmates into 'Christian robots' who do not function well in the real world. The campus is closed off from the outside influences (which many of the students refer to as living in the bubble), and when the opportunity to go into town does present itself, the feeling is one of apprehension. You are immediately tagged as 'one of them', and feel like you just walked out of a cult compound. The daily activities provided many chances to get involved, but not really expand the mind, as one hopes to have when attending a school of higher education. Many of the students I met there were a bit arrogant, and self-absorbed.

Question
Having spent 3 years in the"bubble" I canFine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc
Having spent 3 years in the"bubble" I can honestly say that it is a good university as far as building character and recieving a high quality education, and I am very thankful for the time spent there. Having said that, it is really sad how many rules that they have but what is even more pathetic is the severity of the punishment of the broken rules. This coming from a person that was never in serious trouble but I saw many, many people get dismissed for ridiclous things and honestly I found that the biggest problem on the campus are bible pushers who really have a power trip. Many of the people that graduate from there really have trouble...because the university had babied them with rules and telling them what they could and could not do...so when the time came where they had to make choices...they really could not make a decision on their own...because for 4 years someone else what telling them what to do. Really many tragic BJU stories

Question
I am currently attending BJU.AverageElectrical Engineering
I am currently attending BJU. LISTEN things have changed. No longer does BJU have any interracial dating rules unlike the media would like to promote. So if you're a minority, black, white, alien, from another planet you can date whoever you want to as long as they're the opposite gender (homosexuality is not tolerated obviously). With that said, BJU is a CHRISTIAN school that's strives to do things the biblical way. As much as the school tries, it is not perfect. Everyone that goes around saying how the school isn't perfect is correct. People you made a point and I agree.

For those who are unable to obey the rules, let's just say its not the universities fault ok? One person who recently spoke to the student body in chapel came to BJU as a NEW CHRISTIAN freshly saved out of mormanism. He said he came to bju with 3 suitcases, one which was full of rock music. His major was bible becuase he didn't want to see his friends go to hell, so he wanted to learn how to preach because he was concerned for people. Shortly after arriving in the dorm the dorm sup. asked for his suitcase full of rock music. This student shut the suitcase and handed it right over to the dorm sup. All this student wanted to do was become a better christian and whatever the univeristy told him he did. He's never understood why people have problems with rules. Rules will always be around us no matter where we're at. Listen if it's THAT big of a deal to take a break from listening to rock music or CCM music for a semester at a time than don't go to BJU. Honestly if that is SUCH A BIG DEAL TO YOU then go somewhere else. But if you're willing to give it up with the right spirit then I believe you will see some real blessings happen in your life.

See the point of the University is not to make your life miserable by making you get rid of your things that you think are fun, the point is to train you and discipline you with these rules. Students willing to abide with these rules will also be able to more easily abide with "weird" rules that they will encounter in the work place also. I'm sure everyone who has a job has a boss or a co-worker that they are not particularly fond of due to one reason or another, it's kinda the same thing.

Racist, bigoted, legalist, perfect the university is not.
Bible-abiding, God loving, and people serving is what the university is.I encourage everyone to pray about their decision for college. If you believe that God is calling you to BJU and you're afraid of the rules, have faith in God and obey. Try to embrace the rules with the right spirit even though you don't agree with them (i dont agree with MANY of them). If you decide not to go to BJU because of a certain rule then please pray about it and make sure you are deciding this with the right spiritual attitude.
