Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I needed to complete a BSN.Quite BrightNursing
I needed to complete a BSN. I had earned a bachelors in another country, but being unable to transfer credits, needed to complete the BSN from scratch. WGU is based on a competency model. If you can complete the assigned tasks or pass the exam you are welcome to go ahead and do that and then take the next course. It really worked for me. I was able to test out of many of my courses and am on target to graduate with a BSN in about 9 months.

WGU assigns each student a mentor. I didn't think this would really be a useful part of my time here, but my mentor is an experienced masters prepared nurse and has been so helpful in navigating WGU courses and considering options for my career post BSN. the mentor phone calls have become one of the best features of the program for me. The course work has largely been relevant and useful. I have been able to use much of it in my nursing already. If you are looking for an online option, I recommend considering WGU.

Question
If you have good communication, organization and selfBrightEducation
If you have good communication, organization and self motivation - its a good school.
Its much cheaper than traditional school
It has a somewhat flexible schedule.
CONS:
If you dont understand something - most mentors (teachers) refer you back to your course of study.
There is no Wiggle room. If you miss a deadline - no talking to someone. Dont like the outcome of a grade... you have no recourse.

Teachers beware. The observation and DT IS CRAZY. hey dont guantee you placement either. So after paying them for 2 years, they couldnt find a school willing to let me come student teach. They became very unhelpful and offered a generic BA of educational studies (general degree) which is USELESS and you can go back ever to get your license from them.

The school interface is confusing and takes some time to get used to.
The "task" courses that ask you to do projects as your assessment is way beyond (harder/more busy work) than a brick and morter school.

For most things - its the students responsibility to know deadlines, rules, etc. While a mentor will *sometimes* help - they are general in their help as they feel YOU need to do the leg work, you need to figure out the assignment, you need to find the resources.

Each course mentor has a few hundred to a thousand + students.... do the math - not a lot of attention for you.Remember this - you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Question
After many years of putting off getting myBrightNursing
After many years of putting off getting my BSN and then seriously researching which online university to go to, I feel I have chosen the best university for me. Even though I am a well seasoned and experienced nurse, I am astounded and very happy with all I am learning. I love the self paced study and hope to finish ahead of schedule and move on for my MSN, that is how inspired I am!! The classes have excellent content and so far the professors have been nothing but kind and helpful - especially the Statistics professor!! He is wonderful!
