Beloit College

The most positive thing I can say about Beloit College is that you are an individual here. Most professors ask you to call them by their first name and they make an effort to know yours. I've eaten dinner at more than one professor's house and even been greeted by a professor that I did not know. Not having my teachers know my name was a big fear for me when I started looking for schools.

On the down side of this, though, is that the school is very small and pretty soon the campus sounds like cheers, where every body knows your name...and try "experimenting in college" here and everyone will know about it (all 2000 of them)!

The college is not that far from Madison or Chicago so if the bar scene gets old too fast here, getting to a city with a real night life is not too difficult. Although I will say that while I was underage I had to learn how to handle a night of drinking and get up and do a paper the next morning...helpful skills to know.

This college trusts its students to behave like adults and for the most part the students have complied, that's why its not a punishable offence to walk around campus on a Friday night with a beer in one hand and a wave for the security officer walking by you. Trust and respect exist between the students, the professors, and the rest of the staff at Beloit College.
