I have no doubt that he knows what he is teaching, but his teaching really only consists of reading from a sheet (which he sometimes mis-copies...).  You need to pay very close attention to details such as equations because he is not always a reliable source... His semester final had misprints on the equation sheet before it was pointed out to him—he missed the error.  He talks rapidly and has such a lisp that it is difficult to understand him at times.  I went to him individually for help a couple of times for help, but his assistance didn't help because he was unable to explain things in a manner that makes the most sense to me (unlike most of my other professors).  Bottom line: if you find that you cannot learn the concepts from him in lecture, find someone else to help you because he will be absolutely no help to you at all.  FYI: I also heard from a pretty reliable person that he was on “professor probation” or something because such a great number of his students failed one semester.  I can't say whether it is true or not, but from speaking with other students and my advisor I believe this could definitely be true. 

Just to compare up, I scored a 31 on my ACT and graduated with distinct honors without much effort—and this is easily the most frustrating class I have ever taken; it made my H.S. AP Physics look like a joke.  Many people will probably do fine in this course, but may the rest of you (especially freshmen)consider youselves warned—this could be a potentially difficult class.

Get help from someone else if you do not understand concepts in the manner that he teaches; he is unable to alter his methods of explanation. 
 
Should know...
It's pretty clear what you need to know, but make sure you know it correctly; he makes mistakes.  Obviously, also don't procrastinate.
