Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
I am frightened by a growing trend I've observed at Southwestern. Over the past four years, I have noticed a serious and increasing disregard for the current student. Alumni and prospects get the royal treatment, while student's rights are abused or neglected in order to make way for these groups. This is not merely my opinion. This is an observation made by someone who has been in leadership and has been involved in many decision making processes at Southwestern. A proof-positive way to tell what programs are important to an administrative staff is to see were the money is spent. A Church Ministries Departement now replaces a Student Union. Athlete's and Enrollment Services employee's (campus promotion tools) receive scholarships, while the Student leaders (Student Congress and SMA) are forced to scholarship their own leaders out of their functioning budgets. And that scholarship has remained the same for at least 9 years, while tuition has nearly tripled. I hope this letter is not seen as negative, or medling. I thank the Lord for my experience at Southwestern, and I wouldn't change my decision to attend there if I had it to do over. I just want to make sure that other students will have the same opportunity to have a life-changing experience at Dear 'ole Southwestern, just as I have. Focus on the students you already have, and more will come.
