Hampton University has a good reputation, maybe this is because of the fake aura. The people here are nice, but there is NOTHING to do. The cafeteria food is trash and it closes at 7pm, so students are forced to order pizza everynight. We have Chik-fil-A and Zero's Subs in the student center but the prices are outrageous and they close around 9 on weekdays, and sometimes aren't even open on weekends. The administration department is no help whatsoever. They are very unorganized; and God forbid you have to ask them to do something for you, they will do it whenever they feel like doing it. All of the freshman male dorms are not in good shape, and some of the upperclassmen. The Janitors don't like to clean up so often the bathrooms are VERY dirty, and you just better hope there is some toilet paper in the bathroom since they give us about 1 roll a month. Rules are very strict and unneccessary, an 11pm curfew for freshman which will definitely be in effect at least until Homecoming. No visitation until about March, meaning you can't have girls in your dorms, only in the lobby. And when you get visistation it's only on the weekends for a certain amount of hours, and your doors have to be open and both feet on the floor. Hampton University's building are also in bad shape, the only nice ones are the Library, the B-ball stadium, and the Student Center. Life at Hampton is VERY dull because Freshman and Sophomores are not allowed to have cars. The only thing within walking distance is a shopping center right off campus that is known for it's mischief. I know of a couple people that have been robbed at gunpoint, and even things worse than that that I don't want to mention. A weekend at Hampton consists of you sitting in your room or walking around with friends if there is not a sports game. Or you can wait for the so called fake clubs open on Friday and Saturday nights, which is basically a Fire Hall w/ a guy with his laptop playing music from Kazaa onto speakers (This club is called the Legion). Or the Norva which is a little better, but they rarely have any good parties. There are NO on campus parties thrown by students, only parties thrown by the University which are WHACK. So in conclusion, don't believe the hype of Hampton University, and for you guys out there all of the girls here do not look good. I ask you to visit Hampton University not only on High School Day, or Homecoming. Go on a normal day and honestly think what you will do there in your free time. Because you will have plenty of freetime with these non-challenging academics. I honestly studied at most 4 hours a WEEK including Homework and pulled a 3.4 GPA out of here first semester. I'm filling out transfer applications as we speak!
