Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I am actually in the biochemistry department, not biology. I love the biochem department… I, for once, feel like I am learning something useful, which is more than I can say for the biology department. A lot of the non-engineers who go here are pre-meds who are more concerned with grades than actually learning the material. There is also a lot of grade inflation. For instance, there are many classes where if you do better than 50% of the class, you get an A, and the rest of the class gets a B. There is also a new emphasis on accepting people who were more involved in activities in high school rather than looking only at academics. By doing this, the higher-ups are trying to promote a more social atmosphere, but it is destroying the academic integrity of the school. This year's freshmen had SAT scores 100 points lower than the usual average, and many of them can't hack it.One more thing… it is VERY easy to get into this school, but many people transfer within the first year because either a) they can't handle the work, or b) they hate the atmosphere. Basically, if you're an anti-social science nerd, you'll love it here.
