I can't imagine myself anyplace else. Most people here are down to earth, creative and approachable. I've met many cool people here and only a few truly mean and snotty people, who stick out because of the majority of cool people here. The education quality is very high, with the science department being pretty tough. There are many ways to get involved with everything and anything. Right now, I'm working on being a counselor, involved in a community service program and even teaching a class next semester.

Things can get pretty intense here though, and it's very easy to overload yourself.

One thing that to look at closely is the size of the campus. Oberlin is a small college and gossip and rumors fly around campus like nobody's business. You can't really get away from people even if you need antisocial moments.

However, it is nice saying hi to 30 people you know as you take a 10 minute walk from south to north campus.

It's also very cold here… and the town of Oberlin shuts down at 10 PM, which isn't very good. Many people turn to drinking and pot as a source of fun here. There's no pressure to do either to fit in, but it does seem to be the high point of many people's weekends.

You can find some great parties if you look hard enough, but you REALLY need to look.

Other than that, I do love it here and the friends I've made are possibly the best people I've met in my life. I reccomend this place, but bring a car if you can… it will make your life alot easier.

Oh, and the whole liberal arts protesting every weekend isn't true. The hotbed of political activism isn't as apparent as Oberlin's reputation gives it. T

I was wondering if you could tell me more about your involvement in community service at Oberlin. thanks :D
questionI recently stayed overnight at Oberlin. While there, my host spent the night getting high and drunk. I am not that type of person. Actually, I refuse to ever smoke (any substance) and I find drinking to be pointless. If I go to Oberlin, will I be constantly exposed to kids getting high or are there people who can still have a good experience without being high or drunk?
