Pratt Institute has been a waste of my $35,000. They do a really good job of making this place sound amazing, selective, and well worth your money—when you're actually here, it's a completely different story. For one, the cost is insane!! Even though most people do get a $5,000 a year scholarship, other aid available is minimal when you take into account how expensive books and supplies are. They've had ongoing construction that starts around 8:30am and is guaranteed to wake you up. The dorms are falling apart, they cram as many students into one unit as possible (I'm in a 3 bedroom and there's 7 of us here). After the second semester starts, if your roommate leaves, they take the extra furniture to make sure you don't have the benefit of its use. But worse, they don't take into consideration who they allow to live here—I was stuck with a 30 year old roommate who didn't shower, didn't wear deoderant, and had psychological problems. I tried to discuss with the RA and was told there was nothing they could do about it. There are a few people who have roommates into their 50's. I was a transfer student who earned 65 credits—only 33 credits counted when I came here and I was placed in all foundation classes with entering freshman. The staff is underpaid and rude; everything is a task and battle here—the campus is unsightly. The only good thing about it is the location to Manhattan.
