I spent many years attending USC both as an undergraduate and commuting grad. student. I also still live in the area. Overall, I would rate my experience a positive one.

Education - Business administration school is a good one with many fine professors and motivated students. Business school is recognized nationally.

Social Life - Coming from a small town, the social scene was acceptable for me. If one were from a metropolitan area, I imagine they could be disappointed.

Students - Most students I came into contact with were friendly and genuine. The reputation is one of not having the best students, but that has improved over the years.

Campus - The center core of the campus is the Horseshoe, which has many fine buildings and create a sense of tranquility and symetry. This part of the campus is tree lined with brick paved walking paths and in general you feel as though it is a very historic campus. This part of the campus feeds nicely into the art, humanities and business admin sections of campus. Likewise, there is easy access to Thomas Cooper library, Longstreet Theatre, and Russell House Student center. This is the part of the Campus that most like the best. Unfortunately, the fact that USC is an urban campus means that they have always been hamstrung for land. Many years ago, the decision was made to expand across Assembly St. a major thoroughfare in Columbia. While I suppose this was necessary, I believe it detracts from the beauty and cohesiveness from the central part of the campus discussed above. Likewise, expansion across Blossom St. resulted in some unsightly areas. Taken together, the campus has many nice features with a few drawbacks. It would have been nice to have a lake nearby and an on-campus football stadium. To the Administration's credit, there have been many campus improvements (i.e. Judicial Advocacy center, Strom Thurmond), but many more are needed, especially a new law school.

WOuld I go back? Maybe, though, the size of the University can be a little overwhelming. I would probably at least consider other options, but in the end, I might would still end up at USC.
