Williams College

Williams is a great place. I only wish I had put in more academic effort when I was there. I came from a small, rural town in the Midwest that had a lousy school system, and I just wasn't prepared to take advantage of all that Williams offered. I did sports and music and committees and…pretty much everything but my best work. I have to say, though, if I could do it all again, I would absolutely still go to Williams—there is just so much to do there! I just ended up learning more about myself and about the world as a whole than about the subjects I was studying…

I grew up in a college town, and my siblings all went to private, East Coast colleges, so I have a pretty good understanding of the collegiate world. As for the drinking/socializing aspect at Williams, although there can definitely be a party atmosphere on campus on the weekends, there were only a few occasions when it was wholly focused on or around drinking. Yes, as on every college campus I've ever stepped foot on, there was drinking, and there was underage drinking, and there were people who had problems drinking, but to a less extent than anywhere else I've been. In addition, as there are no frats or sororities, there wasn't the "mean" edge to the parties that I have noticed on other campuses.

If you're looking for a place with challenging academics, outstanding athletics, gorgeous surroundings, a close-knit community, and a real dedication to the student, Williams is the place to be.
