Although the surrounding city of Poughkeepsie leaves much to be desired, Vassar is still a great place to spend your undergraduate years. If you are looking for an open-minded school with lots of academic flexibility, great professors and interesting courses, as well as bright classmates, consider the big VC. Unlike some other LAC's the school tries to put funding into all areas of the curriculum; the arts and sciences are treated equally well. Social life can get claustrophobic due to the small size of the school, but it is avoidable; additionally, the "Vassar Bubble" can make one feel cut off from the world. Some Vassar kids seem snotty; we have a lot of trust-fund, prep-school babies here, but for the most part there are a lot of nice, intelligent people here who are passionate about their studies. I've had a great time thus far. I applied early decision and would definitely do it again.
