The University of Michigan is a great university in terms of research and in terms of opportunity. Coming from a big city, the town does feel pretty small. Other than frat parties, there isn't that much to do on the weekends. The fact that Michigan doesn't have a venue big enough to attract big music bands and speakers doesn't help it either. The people at Michigan are friendly enough and they'll help you out if they can. If you're driven and want to get involved there's very little you can't do here (academically). Add to that the fact that Michigan just got 100 million dollars for its Business School. The main problem is the outrageous tuition for out-of-state students, if this was Yale that would be one thing, but the fact that this is a state school is ridiculous. My advice is that if you want to do research and you're driven enough to do things on your own then Michigan is a good place to go, if you're more interested in a life experience changing university I suggest a big city school like NYU or USC or UCLA. Don't come here if you can't get by on your own.
