Hamilton was a joke. The politically correct atmosphere stifled debate, academic inquiry, character development, and open-mindedness. I do not hesitate to advise prospective students to look elsewhere. If you desire an academically-rigorous school in which you are free to pursue new ideas, develop expertise, contribute to the intellectual discourse, or otherwise spread your intellectual wings, go elsewhere. Your time and money will be wasted.

If you are sanctimonious or a party-type, then you've found your home. Holier-than-thou, closed-minded liberal guilt reigns. Don't you dare say something that might be 1) overheard by someone else and 2) then they take your words out of context (or even if they misheard them) and bring you up on harassment charges.

I was there during the First Gulf War, and, although I vehemently opposed the war, the behavior of the politically-correct students was awful. There was no debate, no attempt to understand the Iraqi culture, especially by the PC students. They had a simple, primitive knee-jerk reaction. There was no room for dissent. No room for discussion with them. THEY were RIGHT. YOU were IGNORANT.

Woe betide those who dared cross the left-wing divide. Professors berated students who disagreed or offered differing points of view. "Diversity" in a true sense, that is, differing opinions and experiences was frowned upon by the self-annointed (quasi-)intellectual class that deemed how the discourse should be structured. Oftentimes, it was a criticism of individualism; going your own way; daring to challenge the canon of belief, the one "right way" or the "Hamilton way".

At Hamilton, "diversity" is a racist, fettishist worship of post colonial africa, of the ghetto, or of the adversely-selected "downtrodden". Hell, if you're from "the North" in their nomenclature, what the sane world calls "the midwest", say, Wisconsin, you're considered to be from the same region as the northeasterners who dominate the landscape: "the North".

If you are lucky enough to have actually open-minded professors, then you're in for a treat. The German and Russian department is great. Prof Malloy is great. Prof Ambrose in history is fantastic. Prof Thickstun in English is excellent. It is too bad they are wasted in the intellectual wasteland known as hamilton.

And yes, had my grades been good enough after my sophomore year, I would have transfered. By my senior year, the atmosphere was so hostile to non-PC types, I would have not returned had I not graduated. PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE. The education you get within some departments does not make up for the general lack of intellectualism at this disgusting institution. It is the Hillsdale of the left wing side: the place for the pastors to preach to the choir.
