Attending A&M is all about fit. It fit me well at the time I attended. The attributes of A&M that come to mind are:—Highly structured—Task and lecture-based—Conservative—Small country town atmosphere—Texas-centric

Because of these attributes, A&M tends to accomdate students without a great deal of worldly experience (e.g., those from small towns and conservative families) that want to learn specific skills (e.g., engineering, agriculture economics, accounting). It prepares its students VERY WELL to perform the "tasks" required of an entry level job. This is a very positive attribute because most employers want young employees to follow instructions and successfully perform specific tasks.

I would suggest that students follow the instructional nature of an A&M undergraduate degree with a more general and well rounded graduate education.

For me, my experience at A&M was great for that particular time in my life. I needed structure and left to my own devices in a more liberal academic atmosphere I would not have performed as well. After my time at A&M, I spent several years in a major accounting firm, followed by working abroad with the same firm and finally a graduate degree at a more "well known" university. These subsequent experiences taken as a whole taught me to "think" more creatively in the business world. When combined with the A&M experience which taught me to "do" very well, I feel pretty satisfied with my overall education.
