Honestly Berklee was an incredibly unique experience.

Lets start with the negatives:

1)Dorms/food were ATROCIOUS, I had to move out freshman year. They try to fit you into a box with 2 other people bout the size of my room at home (which was very small). For the first month@Berklee there were actually 4 people in my room but after a month of complaining we got it down to three. The food made me sick, I saw ants in the salad bars numerous times. Everything made there was dirty and absolutely disgusting.

2) Teachers were awful, they didnt know anything they were rude, condescending. One of my teachers didnt even have a teaching degree. Sometimes by the Boston subways there are people playing music on some type of instrument—this is where they found this teacher.

3) I feel like I was almost tricked into attending this university, they claimed to have such a great reputation but they offer NO resources. I went to the job fair once and 3 recruiters showed up, each with only one job opportunity available. Wow, that sure was helpful

4) Insanely corrupt. I needed help with my second level ear training course and I stopped by on the professors office hours. (no names) he told me if I wanted the answers I could get them for $700 a test. After I heard this I was so incredibly frustrated that I actually tried to tell on him. Well that certainly didnt work out!! I failed my ear traing course even though I had something like an 80 average (shouldve been a B-ish) and not only that, next semester all of my professors failed me. Apparently the teacher that offered me answers to a test for $700 had a lot of friends so when I accused the professor of bribery they were upset and all failed me.

5) The student body. Wow. I dont know where to begin.

  • I would say approximately half of the friends I made at Berklee had <600 SAT score. I only knew one person who got an 1100.
  • Once during my music composition class—the first day—a student asks if he could get switched out of class. So obviously the professor asks about why he wants to switch out and the student says "because I thought composition meant like teaching music". The professor than asks why he didnt read the course description first. And about literally 3 people say after that "there were course descriptions?"
  • There reputation is atrocious. It's actually well-known out-of-state as an atrocious waste of time college. After I went to Berklee I could not transfer ANY of my credits and I have to start all over. I have $60,000 in loans thinking that Berklee would be my ticket into the successful life of a musician, however it seems like all they wanted was as money for the least amount of services. They must profit from about 80% of the tuition from a student.
  • I think that basically sums up the negatives

    As for positives

  • The enormous amount of horrible untalented, HS music rejects that Berklee attracts are usually weeded out by Sophmore year. Berklee has something like a 42% graduation rate, all they want is your money anyway they dont care if you stay. Anyway after sophmore year passes then Junior year you have many intellegent(by intelligent I mean over 700 on SAT) and musically skilled individuals.
  • Boston is a good surrounding city, too bad it's incredibly expensive and you cant get housing as a student unless you go into a disgusting student housing apartment
  • Thats it, dont go to Berklee, ever.
