I really enjoyed my time at Nyack College as a Computer Science major. The Computer Science department is very small and close-knit. The professors in the CS department are great. They provide a great deal of personal attention. They are more than willing to help you if you're struggling in a course. You'll never fall through the cracks at Nyack. The computer and business facilities are top notch. On the Rockland County campus, there is a building called Sky which is devoted entirely to CS and Business majors. It has wireless internet access and up to date facilities.

If you are an strong student in high school or as a transfer student Nyack provides a great deal of academic scholarships to attend the college. On top of that if you are from the New York City area, you automatically get a grant. They provide special types of grants based on certain states you reside in.

Another positive thing about Nyack, is that it is an extremely diverse school. All races are represented at the school. I have had friends who were Caucasian, African American, Asian, and Hispanic. The school represented a true melting pot.

Nyack is a small Christian college and it is affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. This made it feel like the institution primarily prepared students for careers in ministry and missions work. I wish the school focused more on gearing and preparing students for the professional and academic realm.

I also wish Nyack was higher ranked. It seems like they are striving to be better ranked by creating satellite campuses in several cities in order to gain university status. But the school has struggled financially in the past and the endowment is quite small because alumni simply don't give back to the school.

I feel at times that I should have went to a better known institution because I would have more options academically and employment wise. Although, I was nominated on the National Dean's List publication by the school and I did get into a prestigious NYC Teaching Fellows program. I am pursuing a master's degree in teaching at Pace University. I attribute Nyack College for part of that success.

I am also considering pursuing a second bachelor's liberal arts degree from a nationally recognized institution to help me gain admission to a decent law or Ph.D. program in the future.

I am thankful that Nyack provided me the liberal arts experience that I needed and spiritual growth as a Christian. I think the location is ideal it provides easy access to the city while having a laid back environment nestled in a suburban/small town setting.

The school definitely has its shortcomings. But, overally I definitely would recommend Nyack because it is a nurturing and caring environment that provides a student who may get lost at a typical large state university with a great deal of personal attention and encouragement to achieve their goals. Nyack's strong academic and moral support definitely provides a strong foundation for any student to succeed.
