The reputation of the University has provided me respect and acceptance—something I saw others have to earn. It was eye-opening to understand the power that goes with a solid, respectable reputation. My career has grown due to the care and concern of other Aggies. If I had known better, I would have tried harder and looked for more interesting jobs, rather than looking for "the expected" employers. I recommend you really try to avoid "experiencing life"—don't make a mistake that will haunt you for the rest of yours. Find a spouse—they are harder to come by in the outside world. Make friends—they will become lifelong allies in good and bad times.

Great advice. Thanks for sharing. If you happen to see my response, and if you are still in the engineering, would you be willing to tell me how did your career progress in the last 14 years? How easy or difficult is to stay employed in the field and what can one do to remain relevant and attractive to employees more than a new graduate?
