Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
On the bright side, Union gave me a second chance to earn a master's degree after failing in a graduate math degree program at a state university. Also, having a satellite campus in suburban Memphis with weekend classes has helped tremendously—as I have taught in both Arkansas and Mississippi during my time as a graduate student. While the majority of students in my degree program (MAEd) have never taught before, the coursework has helped reinforce what I should have mastered as an undergraduate—as well as giving me insights on how to be a teacher in a post-modern, student-centered, test-driven environment. And I have been able to share my experiences in teaching primarily in rural, "Delta" schools of the midsouth—in contrast to the majority of students who teach in inner-city schools in Memphis and its suburbs.

The one downside has been with financial aid. I have been able to take out student loans to help me achieve my goals; but I almost always end up needing my money before the school is allowed to disberse it to me. Also, because of the main campus being overly committed to offering a large youth camp for Southern Baptist youth every summer, the number of summer classes is dramatically reduced; and students seem to be a lower priority on campus compared to the youth groups and their chaperones.
