I loved my freshmen year at Loyola COllege.  I went to a public high school on the Jersey Shore, Manasquan High School.  I did not have to do much work to get A's in high school and I pretty much coasted doing as little work as possible.  However, Loyola is a challenge and I could not do the usual coasting act from high school on the premises of Loyola.  Teachers were helpful and would always encourage students to utilize their office hours for help.  I did get caught up in the party scene of York Rd.  and Fells Point for the year and hence came my 2.9 GPA both semesters, a far cry from my A student days at public high school.  My advice is, to public high school students is that they need to realize the work ethic instituted at a Catholic or private high school is superior to what I was given at my public school, and you need to buckle down to succeed here.  The dorms are great at Loyola overall, however I stayed in a 4 person quad room to save my parents money on room and board.  The biggest weakness of Loyola is the library in terms of student resources, its not that the library is poor in selection, but that it is not modern.  There are new Freshmen dorms going up as I type this that will be very modern and should attract a lot more students.  OVerall I recommend the school, the student body can tend to be preppy in style, but I managed to enjoy myself there and think it will be an excellent school for a dedicated student.
