I was a National Exchange Student for a year at Carolina, and I had the time of my life. (And just let me say, it's not THAT bad of an idea to go there "for the weather", especially when you're from MN!) Columbia isn't the greatest city but at least there are multiple things to do, what with Five Points, the downtown area, football games, the Vista, and many extracurricular activities. Greek life was bigger there than I expected but it wasn't an entirely bad thing. The school was challenging enough without being too competitive, and all of my professors were helpful and willing to answer questions. The only bad thing I found is that the SC people aren't very friendly at first and it took me a while to get used to their manner. However, I'd still recommend this school.

questionThis is ironic…but I am from MN (U of MN Twin Cities) and I am comsidering SC for the National Student Exchange program.

Are you from Minneapolis? If so, how did the surrouding city of columbia compare to it? How did the campus of SC compare to the U of M?

Did you run into any trouble with being a yankee in the south?

Would you recommend a summer exchange?

How quickly did you make friends as a transfer student?

Did you live on campus?

How was the academic rigor in comparison to MN?

Sorry I am asking so many questions! As I am sure you know, the NSE program selection is scary because there are so many unknowns and a limited amount of information that can be found out from a website!

I appreciate you taking your time to answer my many questions.
