In my experience, there have been some extremely approachable and friendly professors who really do care about the students. Then of course there are some who put on the facade of being friendly and approachable, but take a week to reply to emails, and clearly sound angry when you actually do manage to get them on the phone. I would advise that when you find one or two who appear to genuinely care, that you drop by office hours, and take any additional courses you can with them. Even if you're not truly interested in what they're teaching, give these people a little extra effort so that they will be willing to do the same for you later on should you need it. Try to stay in touch at least somewhat with the people who care about the students, because the last thing you want is for them to forget your name and face when you want them to write you a recommendation for a job, grad school, or both.

Additionally, despite what anyone may tell you to frighten you about the tests you'll have to take, they're ridiculously easy, and you should be well prepared even if you only take half the courses you're supposed to before you go to take the tests.
