Sadly, this guy's review is very dated. Yes, there was a lot of construction going on when he was there;however, it was worth it now. Look at the school for yourself. It is wonderfully well-designed.School spirit is great with a great marching band and strong sports, especially this year.As far as the programs, UC is known for some programs more than some others, notably engineering, criminal justice, pharmacy and medicine, and especially CCM and DAAP. The latter two are widely considered to be in the top 10 in the US. I can tell you that as a curent DAAP student, DAAP is FABULOUS.Coops are what sets UC apart from its other state univesity cousins. Coops can make or break the quality of your education. DAAP had some fabulous coops such as with Disney and David Copperfield. Yes, the magician. Frankly, I totally don't agree with this poster. I guess you can look at a glass as either half empty or half full. To me, UC is a steal in value and is a wonderful place to attend school. I am glad that I chose it ahead of such school as Carnegie Mellon and RISD (who both accepted me). |
The first 2/3rds of this survery are dated or opinion based. But the part toward the ending??? TOTALLY TRUE. The Corryville and McMillan Ave sides of Campus are Cincinnati's cheap late night carnivaland all the ghetto peeps flock there. If you like being asked for cash on every block, you'll love UC. Recap of the original comments which I agree with:Also unless you are going to a select few colleges (medicine, engineering, ccm, or DAAP) don't bother coming here. A UC degree is not going to exactly get you noticed in any other major and even the ones mentioned as relatively good are decidely mid-tier in my opinion. Crime is also a serious problem since the university is in the middle of a ghetto.P.S. This is not some exaggeration. If you seriously want to attend UC I would definitely see it in person (don't take the guided tour) beofre choosing. |
This is the original poster…Well I hope you guys are benefiting form my 5 years of looking at pug ugly construction scenery. I would have to say though the first response to my post sounds a little facictious. It almost reads like advertisement for UC. Nothing wrong with taking a glass half full approach, but its kind of hard to do with UC especially with the trannies right down the street on Vine (and no I am not kidding). I personally was offered the services of a prostitute (a real female) on the elevator in the Siddall Dorm (not sure how she got in). I especially hated the the support staff (e.g. staff at registrar's office and food court) who where both unpleasant and at times rude. Thoroughly depressing.Don't get me wrong I do have positive experiences at UC. Some my professors in engineering were great and I learned a lot form them. That alone, however, does not really makeup for the terrible environment. If any of this has hopefully changed, please correct |
Major: Electrical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
UC is definitely an experience. Just primarily a bad one. Campus is a one square mile concrete city in the middle of a demilitrized zone. The whole layout is a hodpodge of buildings built as if each was afterthought to the grand plan. An old school adage states UC = Under Construction, this was definitely true during my undergrad (2000-05). Half the campus was literally inaccesible to me my entire time there. The administration is also horribly inefficient. They raised our tuition rates the maximum allowable and fired numerous support staff from my department claiming that they were short on funds. All the while continuing on their building spree. Essentially the university wastes the funds it recieves from the state on these pointless construction projects instead of trying to improve the academic environment. Also unless you are going to a select few colleges (medicine, engineering, ccm, or DAAP) don't bother coming here. A UC degree is not going to exactly get you noticed in any other major and even the ones mentioned as relatively good are decidely mid-tier in my opinion.
