JMU has a pretty campus but I guess that's all I get out of it. This school is a huge party school. If you don't drink, then have fun sitting in your dorm all weekend. Harrisonburg can be fun if you know where to look but it's hard to find things to do. The student body is not nearly diverse as they make it sound. I cannot tell the differnce between most people here. All the girls are tinted orange and wear north face and uggs. It may just be me, but A LOT of the kids here are Greek. So if you are into conformity and the smell of dog food in the morning(there's a chicken plant nearby), you'll love it here. I hope to transfer.

questionWhat was the kind of stuff you found to do in Harrisonburg? The stuff you said you had to look to find?

Also if you end up not transferring or wanna give it another shot, I have a piece of advice for you—try out for some of the extracurricular clubs on campus or hey, even a service, academic or honors fraternity (i'm in one right now and it's not at all like a social frat; people are intelligent, kind and interesting, and there's no hazing). I met a lot of interesting people that way and by doing really offbeat stuff (fencing, breakdancing, radio…) that I never would've gotten to meet just walking around or talking to ppl in my classes. Just throwin' it out there in case you change your mind; I've often felt the same way you described about jmu so know you're not alone—there is a LOT of conformity here, extreme cliquishness, and immaturity, but you may be able to bypass that if you know where to look.

commentThere is so much to do here. I never have to look for a thing to do. Try being an open person. I haven't been bored one day since being here for two years. I don't think you are being fair in your opinion.
commentNot everyone is greek. Less than 20% of the student population is. I would really suggest checking your facts before you allow your opinion to overtake your rating. The majority of the campus is very friendly and always holds open doors. I'm confused by the rating you gave for friendliness.
commentI don't agree nor disagree with what the author has stated. However, it's annoying to see responses/comments where some people assume that others who find a campus boring, unattractive, etc. haven't attempted to fit in - via extracurricular activities, volunteering, club sports, etc.

I don't know if the author has attempted to fit in on campus, but I doubt that these critical responders know either. So before you start touting your preconceived notions, ask the author first. Think a little…before you comment :), and if you don't think my comment holds any water, then you, my friend, are a cross dressing Nazi. No, I'm kidding about that last line. :)

responseHear hear! haha i LOVE that last comment!! ppl need to stop getting so uppity and making assumptions/character assassination when they see a critical review. just because you didn't have the same experience as this reviewer doesn't mean their opinion isn't valid or they aren't trying.
