Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
In fall 2007 I decided to continue my education 10yrs after initially completing my degree. An appointment was made at Student Services in order to smooth this transition. This experience was less than positive - I asked specific questions but received vague answers. I asked for assistance as well as advice regarding curriculam and procedures. Obviously I'm aware that procedures change over the years, but I am familiar with how students should be treated. My specific questions were not addressed, there was very little flexibility for working students and I felt as if the advisor who was supposed to be helping me was just trying to get me out the door.

Although this experience should have served as a red flag, I entered the first quarter with a positive attitude. My first class went OK, the professor was not the best but adequate. My only complaint would be that instructors should reflect the qualities in which they are teaching (in this class Organizational Leadership). In this case the instructor was somewhat lacking.

My winter quarter went relatively well. The mathematics instructor was wonderful (if you have the chance to take classes offered by Mr. Ondresik I highly recommend). Spring quarter was the worst experience by far. Firstly, I requested counseling from my advisor with regard to some classes. I asked specific questions about my readiness for an advanced Mathematics course based on the classes I'd already taken. I was told that taking the class would be no problem. In the first week of the class, I was completely confused. I requested help from the instructor or a tutor referral for assistance. I was told that there was no recommendation for tutoring assistance, so I had to schedule and appointment with the professor and leave my job early because extended office hours were not offered. When I arrived to this appointment another student was there. I told the professor that I was totally confused with the class, and got a blank stare. I asked specific questions and got a condescending attitude (he actually said "Obviously, the answer has to be xyz, because…). This instructor aswered 2 questions, then went back to grading paper… basically dismissing me. I was extremely insulted by condescending manor inwhich I was treated. Finally after the second week of spending literally HOURS on ONE problem, I asked my old instructor whether he could recommend a tutor. It was then that my old instructor did some research and found out that my Mathematics level was a 3 and the class level was a 5. Not only should my student advisor noticed this problem when I SPECIFICALLY ASKED if this class was something I should take, I was not even aware of specific "levels". So, considering that I could not find a tutor and was not academically prepared for the class there was no choice but to drop. That left me with one class, an Organization Leadership class. The professor in charge of this class, while apparently qualified to teach the course work was ridiculously ignorant of even the most basic technological process with regard to WebCT. Not only could this person not even create a discussion for prescheduled online classes, she could not do ANYTHING correctly. Numerous examples: Could not post discussion areas in webCT, did not know how to post files correctly to webCT, did not post grades correctly (for instance assignment shows that 30pts available, instructor posts 55pts), NEVER responds to emails or if responsive does so in a condescending demeanor or does not respond to specific issue… I could go on and on.

Needless to say after this experience I will not be attending Wright State fall quarter, and plan on writing a letter to progressively higher administrators until I get a satisfactory explanation. It is completely beyond my understanding that a supposedly reputable university would expect students to pay enormous fees yet receive condescending treatment from lackadaisical staff members and socially retarded professors who possess the mental capacity of a rock.
