Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
If you are interested in and committed to what you are studying, there are ample opportunities to prepare you for your intended career, grad school, or just to obtain a degree from a respected university. You will like some students, others will not be your cup of tea. You will most likely make great friends. Professors listen to what you have to say, especially when speaking one-on-one, and really do appreciate your input. The people in English advisement really like to advise; they will not treat you like a number. New York State Writers' Institute brings in a lot of renowned authors. Independent movie theater downtown shows tons of great films. Lots of nearby parks to explore. No great clubs, except for sleazy freshman places—the Fuze Box is sweet if you're into '80's nights—but there are tons of bars to chill at. Clubs are all pretty cheesy and unimpressive for the most part, so make the campus happy and create your own, something cool I hope. A lot of people don't know that you can DJ, if you want, for the university radio station, whose audience extends pretty far beyond the campus. There are a lot of things to be discovered about the school and surrounding area. If you look, you will find it. Sometimes campus can appear dreary, sometimes beautiful, sometimes weird, sometimes illogical, sometimes interesting, etc. The "harder" classes are the most interesting and have the most interesting people in them and the most interesting professors teaching them… and give the most leeway! Don't be fooled into thinking "easy" classes will get you better grades. Do what you're interested in and I think you will enjoy yourself.
