Hi, I am a senior in highschool and thinking of going to UCSC when I graduate this year june. I am very excited for this college, however after I read your review on this school, I had to think one more time of going here..do you regret going to UCSC? Are you planning to transfer to another UC? Are the students there really unfriendly..? Im expecting some FUN Different life in college..and I dont want to regret going to UCSC |
My son is graduating from UC Santa Cruz this June and his experience has been very different from the above student's experience. He took a kinetic art class, and designed an art piece that was featured in the Los Angeles Art Walk last February, and was in an opening for LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions). Recently, he was awarded an Irwin Scholarship, and does illustrations for the "City on the Hill" newspaper. He has made wonderful and interesting friends there. When he comes home for the holidays, they visit and they are interesting, creative, and intelligent people who are doing a variety of exciting things with their lives. My son and his girlfriend hosted an art gallery opening in Santa Cruz, and invited people to submit their artwork. The event was very successful and raised money for the HIV testing center where my son volunteers. Each individual is different, as is each individual's experience. While I know there are many who fit the description above, there are kids in the sailing club, volunteering at the community garden and at the HIV testing center, playing rugby and pick-up soccer on the weekend. My friend's husband graduated from Santa Cruz and he is a director of one of the public health units for Los Angeles. I teach with three teachers who graduated from UC Santa Cruz, so you see, not everyone here is a "stinky pot loving uneducated hippy". If you are looking for other opportunities, they are there. |

UC Santa Cruz, the whitest out of all the UCS. Uneducated liberals abound, the richest kids out of all the UCs, UCSC is a boring place to go to school. Yeah you might be saying "I dont care about football or the typical college experience, I want something different!" No, you really dont. You wanna know why? Typical college experience= easy way to meet people, create fun events (not just football, for christ sake this school doesnt even have a center area where kids from the whole university can hang out) and just enjoy yourself. If youre a stinky pot loving uneducated hippie who wants to spend their 4 years stoned in the trees without really joining a campus atmosphere, then by all means…but for those who want to have a genuine time with people who enjoy different activities DONT COME HERE.
