I just began my second (and last semester) at UGA. Let me start by saying, I was so excited about coming here..positive attitude and high hopes. I'll breakdown the experience I've had here.

Student Body: Alright, so I am a pretty academically focused, low drama type of gal. The vast majority of girls here are wearing uggs, sporting the northface, texting on their cell phones all the time, and could be mistaken for a sororistute any day of the week. Sure, not all, but probably 95%. The guys are either in a frat, drink enough to be in a frat, or are genuine southern gentlemen with a girlfriend back home. So, finding a 'good one' is a challenge. The ratio is a bit skewed. For example, my English class this semester is (girls:guys)4:1. My calc class is a little worse than 3:1. You get the idea. Pretty much everyone here is a borderline alcoholic, so I hope you like to drink 4 nights a week.

Athens: Athens has been the highlight of my experience. I have gone to shows downtown at 40watt throughout the year and enjoyed them thoroughly. It is shocking how many bands come to such a small place! Most Freshmen go downtown Thurs-Sat to get wasted at the bars. Not my scene, so I can't really elaborate on it. People watching at 1am is pretty entertaining, after the concerts wrap-up.

Academics: I was pretty frustrated last semester. Three of my classes were around 300 students. This semester was a little better. Three are under 40. I feel like a number here, though. I scheduled an advising appointment, and I think I knew more about it than the advisor. But, at the end of the day, you can get to them. The work itself is pretty easy. I worked a lot harder in high school. They have to make sure all the drinkers pass too.

Housing/Food: Both are pretty good. I was in a smaller dorm and would do it all over again. It attracts the more creative crowd, rather than the greek types. The food is awesome. I am a vegetarian and had no problems here!

Athletics: This school is OBSESSED with football. I didn't go to the games. I used to love UGA football, really..I did. But after seeing who loves it here, I pretty much refused to associate myself with it. I was kind of ashamed. You have to 'bleed red and black.' I probably made a total of $250 off tickets, so sell sell sell!

Wrapping up, there are good people here. They are few and far between, but they are here. If you are a really social person that wants to party a lot in college, UGA is the place for you. You will LOVE it. If you are kind of quiet and conservative, it might not be fit (at least in my case). I am currently filling out transfer applications.
