A terrible place. There is a big problem with hard drugs that are brought in from the dumpy city next door. Don't be fooled. Uhart is not actually in west hartford- only one building that the mail goes to so they can say it is in West hartford.

most all of the students care about for the most part is drinking nonstop. This would be okay if it did not negatively impact the studies of those who are trying to get a decent education (which is hard enough because most of the classes are easier than level two or level 3 high school classes.

the living spaces are confined and depressing. the food is pretty terrible and people complain of getting sick from it. the academic side of the campus is alright except for the hartt school which is really dumpy looking.

safety is a problem. This year alone there have been numerous car break-ins, armed robberies (yes meaning with guns), big fights amongst idiots and frats (hard to distinguish), a stabbing, and at least one reported sexual assault. This is not a big student population so that is really bad. I feel safe enough walking around outside at night because I feel I could take on anyone as long as they weren't carrying a weapon but I shouldn't need to think that way. If I were a girl I would not walk alone outside. Instead of focusing on bigger problems such as these, Public Safety takes the easier route and busts kids for smoking pot. These kids aren't hurting anyone or being loud and disruptive but PS knows it is easier to bust a bunch of mellowed out peaceful kids rather than cracking down on the hard drugs and high rate of underage alcohol consumption. I personally talked to someone who works on student conduct issues and s/he admitted outright that no one can control the students. That is scary.

It is not worth $40,000 a year to go to this school. The education is terrible. Most of the people that go here are from rich families. They couldn't get into a school that was good and expensive (because they are stupid and only cae about partying) so they settled on one that was just expensive. Trash covers the campus because there are very few trash cans. A student tried to change this years ago but when he went to the head of the school the president asked him

who will empty the trash-cans?

With such a ludicrous response one can only guess that he was a product of this school…

It's a real shame because the Hartt School is really good and so are some of the teachers in other majors but the clientele dictates what kind of education there is and the campus life. It is very disruptive. Most people I know that are serious about their education are packing up to transfer or are stuck here for one more semester because they couldnt get all the application stuff done in time.
