I enjoyed my collegiate experience at ETBU. Many of the people who posted negative experiences about the University had issues with the policies based on the bias that it was a CHRISTIAN University enforcing those policies. If you want to drink, get drunk, have sex, look at pornography, do drugs, defame property, act the fool, all on campus then you probably will not appreciate this University. If you are looking for a University that acts as an accountability partner to help you invest your money and time wisely in an expensively private education then you will appreciate ETBU.

I have heard some students complain that ETBU doesn't allow them to act like adults. I have yet to work for an employer that will allow their employees to drink, have sex, look at pornography, or do drugs, all while working on the job. I HAVE worked for many secular employers that have turned down applicants who act the fool with drinking, drug use, pornography, and provocative behavior in photos on public profiles MySpace and Facebook profiles.

So for me, ETBU treats all of it's students like adults. Just like many of the people I have worked for over the years. In fact ETBU does a pretty good job preparing students to be adults in the real world.

Maybe some of the students who argue about the school policies haven't really matured to adulthood in order to understand this just yet.

Don't believe the negative hype. ETBU is legit. Be careful what some of these cats are claiming about the University. Faculty, Staff, dorm staff and administration are good people who genuinely care for students.

responseActually, the fact that people are complaining that it's "too strict" only makes the place more appealing to me. My daughter is interested in ETBU. It's good to see that the faculty there are very open and willing to help. I appreciate your comments. We'll see if ETBU is ultimately where my daughter chooses to attend college.
responseI don't know who wrote the initial post, but it sure sounds like someone from the staff has been responding to any negative comments. I went to ETBU for my entire college career and can tell you first hand there are a lot of positive AND negatives about attending this university. On one hand, I made the very best friends of my life and consider that a big win in my book. On the other hand, ETBU does have some strict policies that are over the top (Setting up "stings" to find student breaking the rules, etc.). It boils down to what you are looking for in a college. A big negative in my book is the BSM at ETBU. A lot (not all, but a LOT) of them thought of being in the BSM as a way to show off how much christian they were than others at school and could be rather judgemental of those of us who chose not to be involved in every religious organization offered. Additionally, they will conduct random room searches to check for any contriband you may or may not have. They would take this to extremes at times, and it would not be uncommon to have a friend tell you he or she got a fine for having an inappropriate magazine or book. They even go so far as to fine a student who had a human sexuality textbook from a class the previous semester (apparently you have to sell it back once the semester is over).

There are a lot of politics that go on behind the scenes of this university that adversely affect the student life on campus, I know first hand.

For the positives of ETBU..again, you will meet the coolest people of your life, many of which I still talk to on a daily basis. Being in such a tight knit community, you and the friends you make will find ways to make the best of it.

From an educational standpoint, ETBU has an awesome business school. I had no trouble finding a great paying job out of school. Majors I would stay away from-religion and psychology. Not because the programs are terrible, it's actually quite the opposite. Some of my favorite and most insightful times at ETBU were in Dr. Harris' new and old testament classes. If you look at the numbers, more student transfer out of these two courses of study because they don't offer return in the long run unless you are deadset on being a minister or psychologist.

Overall, I would give my combined ETBU experience a C-. I would only recommend going there if you have been sheltered as a child and still feel the need to be coddled until you are 22. But beware, ETBU does NOT prepare you for the real world from a social standpoint.
