Major: Accounting (This Major's Salary over time)
I just finished my first year at Drake University as an Accounting and Writing major. I have had a fantastic experience thus far. Within the college of business it is exceptionally easy to double major, and it is also quite easy to double major in a separate college such as journalism or arts and sciences.

Overall, the business program really takes care of their students. Dean Blum, the Dean of students for the college of business, is absolutely amazing. You can email him any time of day and he will respond within a few hours. A few months into your first semester he will not only know you by name, but most likely know your hometown and your major as well. In your first year you have the opportunity to attend at least 2 career fairs and several networking events. You are also thrown into mock interviews at the beginning of your second semester, which is extremely helpful because since you start your major as a first year student by the fall of your sophomore year you will most likely have an internship, if not before that. Also, you have a writing coach to help you write your resume and cover letters. Needless to say, Drake really focuses on getting your prepared for the real world and not just speaking at you in a lecture hall.

I am originally from the Chicago area and, despite this, I really do like Des Moines. It's a very small, but very cool city. Downtown there is the Des Moines Civic Center where they have shows such as RENT, Jersey Boys, August: Osage County…etc. Also, Drake students ride the DART busses for free, so getting downtown is extremely easy, although the busses do stop running after a certain time.

On campus there is always a lot going on as well. The Student Activities Board does a great job of planning events. Also, one of the great things about Drake is the Drake Relays in April. Drake relays is a track meet that involves high schools, universities, & professional athletes(LoLo Jones, the olympic athlete, was present this past year). It's extremely exciting to have such a huge well known event at such a small school.

No, Drake is not a huge name school, but is recognizable. I know Drake students that are currently at internships at Disney in Orlando, at businesses in California, and even companies abroad. Drake is a great place to meet new people and have a lot of fun, but it also prepares you for the real world - hope this helped.
